Buy Online on eBay and Craigslist

Posted: March 6th, 2017

You probably have seen us on Facebook, on our website at assistanceleaguebellingham.org and on Craigslist.

To find us on Craigslist:
go to Craigslist.org, select Bellingham listings, then click the “for sale” listings; in the search box put the words “AL Thrift” and our current ads will come up.

Did you know we ALSO have an eBay presence?
eBay auction items are NOT located in our shop here at 2817 Meridian; they’re located off site until the listings are completed.  You are most welcome to bid on our eBay listings, and if you win an auction or purchase a “buy it now” item from us, you pay no shipping cost if you can come to the shop to pick up the item, rather than having it mailing.

To find our eBay listings online:
On eBay.com at the far right upper corner, next to the big “search” word, there is the word “advanced” in smaller letters.  Click that link.  That brings up a page of search options.  In the left column click the link under “find items” where it says “by seller”.  Then in the box where you enter “seller’s ID”, enter the name “alb_thriftshop”.  (That’s an “underscore” between the alb and thriftshop).  We list interesting items on eBay almost every day!

Assistance League Clothes Over 1700 Whatcom County Students

Posted: January 2nd, 2017

imagesIn the 2016-2017 school year, 1707 elementary and middle school students (K-8) in need were clothed in our Operation School Bell program.

Volunteers from Assistance League and Target were on hand to help students shop during specially arranged shopping events at the Bellis Fair Target Store.

The smiles on the faces of these kids as they shop with their parents and pick out cute clothes is so heart warming. And, the folks at Target could not have been more accommodating.

This program could not have been as successful without the help of the many dedicated Assistance League of Bellingham volunteer members.

Operation School Bell chairs Nanci and Joani thank Assistance League of Bellingham members for being so faithful to the program and willing to adapt to working img_4702various positions as needed.

Nanci commented, “It was wonderful to have so many trained and willing workers. We had over 50 members participate and some members came many times to help fill the jobs. We had brand new members and we had long-time members participate, which tells us that everyone enjoys being a part of the excitement to see these children and families come to shop for school clothes.”

Our Operation School Bell program has expanded to include homeless high school students. In April of 2015, our chapter amended their Operation School Bell program to include the most vulnerable students in public schools.

img_4675“Teen Team” will be awarding vouchers worth $125 to high school students in-need to purchase clothing and shoes at Lakeway Fred Meyer. We are very excited to be able to help these students who have expressed a desire to graduate from high school under adverse circumstances!

Teen Team chair, Sally, reports that “So far this year, 68 vouchers have been issued with 44 vouchers  redeemed.”

Assistance League of Bellingham Gives Christmas Gifts

Posted: December 20th, 2016

img_9772Every year a committee of women from Assistance League of Bellingham work together to provide gifts for people in care centers. In the 2015-2106 fiscal year they served 78 recipients in eight Whatcom County Care Centers.

The Care Center Support group shops, wraps and personalizes their holiday gifts for residents that do not have family or friends in the area.

In the photo, Assistance League of Bellingham member, Mary Ann Coughlin presents Christmas gifts to Kelly Erwing, activities director of Alderwood Park Health & Rehabilitation Center.

Throughout the year these residents are sent greeting cards for their birthdays, and in the spring they are remembered again with small gift items such as decorations for their rooms etc.
